The short version: diald. keeps your data on your device. We don't have accounts, we don't run servers that store your information, and we don't collect, track, or sell your data. The one exception is the optional bag scan feature, described below.
All the information you enter — your espresso machine and grinder, your beans, shot logs, tasting notes, ratings, saved recipes, and the country you select — is stored locally on your device only. It is never uploaded to us or to any server. We have no account system and no database of users. We cannot see your data, because it never leaves your phone.
diald. includes an optional “Scan bag” feature that lets you photograph a coffee bag to automatically fill in bean details. This feature is entirely optional — you can add beans manually at any time without using it.
When you use Scan bag:
• Your camera is accessed to take the photo, or you may choose an existing photo from your library.
• The image is sent to our secure backend service (hosted on Supabase), which forwards it to Anthropic (anthropic.com), a third-party AI service, solely to read the text on the bag label and return structured data (roaster name, origin, roast date, and similar details).
• The image is used only for this single request. It is not stored by us, by our backend, or by Anthropic beyond the processing of that request.
• If you decline camera or photo library permission, the scan feature will not activate. All other app functionality remains available.
Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
diald. does not access your device's location. We never request location permission and never read your GPS, IP address, or similar. The “country” you choose (used to estimate how far your coffee has travelled and to tailor bean suggestions) is something you select yourself from a list — it is a preference you enter, not location data we detect.
We don't use analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting tools. We don't build a profile of you or monitor how you use the app.
The Discover section may show links to third-party roasters and retailers where you can buy coffee. Tapping these opens the retailer's website in your browser. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we don't control. Some links may include an affiliate code, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy — this doesn't cost you anything and doesn't share your personal data with us; it simply tells the retailer the referral came from diald.
Because everything is stored on your device, you're in control. You can clear all your data any time using the “Delete all data” option in Settings, and deleting the app removes all of it entirely. There's no account for us to close and no server-side copy, because none exists.
diald. is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect any data from anyone (we don't collect data at all, except as described in the bag scanning section above).
If we change how the app handles data (for example, if we add cloud sync or accounts in future), we'll update this policy and note the date above.
